MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SCAR APPLAUDS DURANT’S FRANK TALK

The Saskatchewan Coalition Against Racism (SCAR) is applauding Roughrider Q.B. Darian Durant’s honest assessment of racism in his home state and “in a lot of places around the world.” Leader Post sports writer Rob Vanstone, commended Durant for his “superb” media scrum and for his “eloquence and honesty” in discussing the racial situation in the state of South Carolina.

We are fine hearing someone talk about racism in other places, but wouldn’t it be superb if we all felt as comfortable hearing about the serious state of racism locally? Wouldn’t it be superb if our local community leaders felt as comfortable as Darian Durant to admit the “reality” of our own racist society rather than to “deny, deny, deny? Yes, and wouldn’t it be superb if, at a Rider game, we didn’t have to hear the racist cat calls from select inebriated fans in the stands or the racist slurs directed at citizens into whose neighbourhood those fans have staggered? At SCAR, we believe that, too, would be superb.
